morning after | aden & parker

At his chuckle, she smiled, happy that he was awake. She rolled over to face him, keeping Bamboo in her arms all the while. Damn, her head hurt. She threw him a smile as she looked at him, glad that he was there. “Morning handsome.” She laughed at his idea of Bamboo being competition. “Yes.”

She saw his mock-pout and raised her arms to pull his head down to hers. “But your kisses are better,” she whispered before kissing him lightly.

Parker smirked at her kiss. At her moist lips pressing against his own, in a symbol of affection and he wondered why it had taken this long to get used it. He loved Aden, he really did, with all his heart.

“What’s on the agenda today?” Parker asked as he scooped Bamboo up in his arms and growled playfully at the puppy.

morning after | aden & parker

adenfowler:

As Aden stirred in the bed, she was acutely aware of just four things. One: the sunlight was too bright. Two: her head was too heavy to move. Three: Bamboo had jumped up and was currently cuddled in her arms. Four: Parker’s arm around her waist was tighter than usual. Surprisingly, it was the fourth one that made her furrow her brow before letting out a breath she hadn’t known she’d been holding. Unwilling to move, she contented herself to taking a few deep breaths in hopes of diluting the hangover that she obviously had.

The night before suddenly came back to her in flashes. The alcohol she’d drunk much more vigorously than normal. The argument with Hazel about Zach. Henry and Ace’s brawl. Parker’s kiss. She couldn’t believe it had taken her this long to remember it. It was strange that Aden felt it was some weird sort of milestone in their relationship, but she did. Then again, the couple had been anything but normal. It just wasn’t their thing. She smiled as she cuddled Bamboo, giving him kisses on his nose.

Parker woke to the sound of kisses, but was sad to find they were for Bamboo and not himself. He watched Aden who seemed to be in deep thought. Brows furrowed while she peppered Bamboo with kisses. He gave a small chuckle to let his woken presence be known.

“Good morning, sweetheart,” He sat up in bed, “Have I got a little competition?”

Maybe it was the alcohol. Maybe it was the craziness of the night. Or maybe it was the fact that she just didn’t feel like things were different. She lowered her eyes, not meeting his and not wanting to talk about it anymore. They just couldn’t seem to talk about it and she didn’t want things to be so strange. Aden could understand the adjusting. She couldn’t even understand waiting on the sex part, because honestly, she wanted to. But she shouldn’t have to practically beg him to want to kiss her.

She sighed, taking another sip of her drink as she looked around the room. There were too many people and really bad music. She still didn’t have a desire to move. And yet the air where she was felt stifling.

Parker noticed Aden look away from and not meet his eyes, and he felt a little bad. Maybe this was what he had to do, this was the moment where he was to break all awkward ties and just kiss her, like a proper boyfriend and not like a family member thanking you for the Christmas present.

Taking a large sip of the drink placed in front of him, he bent down and pressed his lips against Aden’s.

She was going to smack him. Not hard, mind you, but neatly on the arm. And then he said it. The L word. He hadn’t said that since they got together, and she knew why. But she could feel it and that was enough, even though there was a small part of her that wanted to hear the words. It wasn’t a big production, it wasn’t theatrical. But it was real and it was perfect.

She smiled up at him, looking into his eyes and realizing that he knew everything about her. The good, the bad, the batshit crazy. And he was still here. Right in front of her. “I love you back.”

“I know that too,” He smirked, and pecked her quickly on the lips, and then ordering another drink. Parker wasn’t completely oblivious, he knew that Aden craved attention from him, closeness; sex and intimacy. But he just wasn’t ready. It was still a little weird for him, sometimes he forgot she was his girlfriend and not just his best friend anymore.

But he realized he would have to get over it. He needed to stop thinking about it, and just do things - things couples did - with her. He over-analyzed everything and he needed to stop, feel things instead.

She stayed furrowed in his arms, refusing to even look up at him. She hated making a fool of herself. She might not care what people think, but she still didn’t like anyone else’s attention on her for more than a few seconds. She slowly wrapped her arms around his waist and sighed.

Eventually, she looked up at him, seeing the mirth in his eyes and rolled hers. She couldn’t begrudge him some humor, even if it was at her expense. She bit her lip, feeling the heat in her cheeks. “I’m a bloody idiot.”

“I know. Believe me, I know,” Parker had known Aden for practically his whole life, he knew everything about her. How she was book smart but a total idiot when it came to street smarts. She was a little clumsy too, but he loved it. He loved laughing at her, with her. It was the most important thing to him. He couldn’t ever love someone he couldn’t laugh with.

“But I love you for it.”

She supposed that if there was one thing she truly loved about him, it was his honesty. He could be honest to the point of brashness and yet she knew he’d never lie to her. Aden was thankful for that. She still found the drama slightly hilarious and quirked an eyebrow.

Aden couldn’t help but laugh, the melodic sound filling up more of the space around them than she’d realized. She felt her face get red as people turned and she immediately turned around, burrowing her face in Parker’s chest. “Please tell me I didn’t just laugh that loud,” she mumbled, hoping he could hear her.

Parker snorted, a real snort, at her laugh and all the people turning around to look at her. He could practically feel the heat from her cheeks burn through his shirt. His arms wrapped around her back as he watched everyone go back to talking about whatever boring things every single rich person in this town seemed to talk about.

He liked that Aden got embarrassed, even though it wasn’t that often, he relished in the moment that she did. “You did.”
